The Gospel According to Mumford & Sons

Love; it will not betray you
Dismay or enslave you, it will set you free
Be more like the man you were made to be

-

But I will hold on hope

-

We’ll be washed and buried one day my girl
And the time we were given will be left for the world
The flesh that lived and loved will be eaten by plague
So let the memories be good for those who stay

-

Oh the shame that sent me off from the God that I once loved
Was the same that sent me into your arms
Oh and pestilence is won when you are lost and I am gone
And no hope, no hope will overcome

And if your strife strikes at your sleep
Remember spring swaps snow for leaves
You’ll be happy and wholesome again
When the city clears and sun ascends

-

It seems that all my bridges have been burnt
But you say that’s exactly how this grace thing works
It’s not the long walk home that will change this heart
But the welcome I receive with the restart

Lead me to the truth and I will follow you with my whole life

-

But it was not your fault but mine
And it was your heart on the line
I really fucked it up this time
Didn’t I, my dear?
Didn’t I, my dear?

-

And death is at your doorstep
And it will steal your innocence
But it will not steal your substance

But you are not alone in this

-

Alone in the wind and the rain you left me
It’s getting dark darling, too dark to see
And I’m on my knees, and your faith in shreds, it seems

-

In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die
And where you invest your love, you invest your life
In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die
And where you invest your love, you invest your life

Awake my soul
Awake my soul
Awake my soul

For you were made to meet your maker

-

And there will come a time, you’ll see, with no more tears
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears
Get over your hill and see what you find there
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair

  1. Some really great stuff in these lyrics. Thanks for sharing. We are getting ready to start a series of the good and bad in “secular” music, TV, movies, etc. in youth. I think this will work perfectly.
